Caught off guard

I once read somewhere that "the worst way to miss someone is when they're right there..." I believe it was one of those annoying chain letters that you receive in your inbox and somehow by mistake forget to delete before opening it. Once you read the first line you're caught in a moment and continue to read until the end. Point being: the worst thing about missing someone who is right there is not being capable of doing anything about it. When someone is away and you feel the longing to see them, be with them, hear their breath... the solution lies in a plane/train/bus ticket. But, when that person is right there and you can't even look at them, it becomes clear that what you miss about them is not (purely) physical...it's much more profound - for the spiritual absence of someone is nearly unbearable. Pain is like a foil; the seemingly harmless bendy appearance blinds your from seeing how painful the stab can be. In this respect, when you're stabbed with a foil-like moment, the pain/disappointment that runs through you, through every artery of your body, and every piece of your heart, feels like a myriad of horrifyingly sharp tips penetrating your skin.

I have never thought I'd feel uncomfortable in my own house. I guess I was mistaken. Perhaps this needed to happen... but why? The reason why I prefer SLRs over digital cameras is that once you take a picture, its forever captured; nothing can delete or edit it. Some pictures are just perfect the way they are.

Not seeing him for nearly a week was bizarre, but being so close, yet so far away from him tonight was...i cant even finish that thought. I hate being caught off guard at such times.

Birthday Wishes

To the last remaining Skundric kid of this generation: Welcome to the wonderful world of wonders.

I cherish every moment of my childhood precisely because you were there all along. Don't grow up with age, for it is of no significance to anyone beside man.

Hail to Wyclef

From the equally poignant and insipiring relatively recent release of "Welcome to Haiti: Creole 101" :

"The independence of 1804 brings us to 2004, 200 years of independence for Haitian people. So I celebrate for I will not see another 200 years. Join me in the celebration because you too will not see another celebration, but my kids will tell your kids and your kids will tell their kids so that our culture will never die." What it is: My theory of the world

What it proposes: An integral theory of the world of Relations (international, intranational, transnational, interpersonal, etc)

What it assumes: People are born to (a) love and (b) belong to a community (i.e. find their other half- whether that is in a couple, the church, family, university, capitalism...not important: they seek to belong to a community). They are independant only to a certain extent: for their goal of loving is twofold: love thyself, and love the community you belong to.

Other assumptions:

- Everything human stems from (a): hate, friendship, war, peace, etc ---why? because no baby is born to hate; the "evil" people amongst us too love something...one just needs to understand what it is

- Everything else is a product of the mix of (a) and (b): nationalism, social constructs

- Lack of understanding leads to seperation through fear, hatred.

-Man's fatal flaw: not understanding that one can belong to an unlimited number of "circles"; the lack of immediate understanding leads to fear/hatred; assumption that belonging to one circle must automatically exclude you from belonging to another

-The truth is that these circles overlap naturally, and it is only by understanding this, that peace can be maintained in the long term. Understanding that differences should open us up rather then create fear of the unknown, is essential in enlarging both our scope of circles and our cultural "heritige".

- Trade is beneficial to everyone because it (a) improves our living conditions and (b) facilitates socio-cultural exchange. Democracy may be the "fairest" form of government, but it needs to be naturally grown, rather then synthethically imposed.

--So much for now-- Will expand my theory as time permits.
